Why it is worth going

Massenet set Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther; this is Tatjana Gürbaca's production, made in collaboration with Opernhaus Zürich, with sets and lighting by Klaus Grünberg and costumes by Silke Willrett.1 Marie Jacquot, the Royal Danish Theatre's Principal Conductor, leads the Royal Danish Orchestra in the score for the first time.1 Tenor Jacob Skov Andersen sings Werther and mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Jansson sings Charlotte, with Theodore Platt as Albert and Ava Line Shokooh as Sophie.1 It is sung in French with Danish and English surtitles.1 The Old Stage is the original theatre on Kongens Nytorv, built in 1874 to designs by Vilhelm Dahlerup.2
