The Architectural Experience at Louvre Abu Dhabi

Why it is on the list

Louvre Abu Dhabi is the largest art museum in the Arabian Peninsula, built by Jean Nouvel and opened in 2017 under an agreement between the UAE and France that licenses the Louvre's name.¹ Its dome is 180 m across and weighs about 7,500 tonnes: eight layers, four of steel and four of aluminium, holding 7,850 stars, over a museum-city of 55 buildings set in the sea.² The Architectural Experience is the museum's own tour of the building: seven stops in 90 minutes for no more than 15 people, ending on a walkway inside the dome, 14.5 m up. Each guest is given the museum's book on the project.³

It is the wrong choice for anyone under 13, in a wheelchair or using a stick, and while the programme is paused for the weather.³ For a guided visit indoors, take the Golden Tour at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

How to get it

Call the museum's call centre on +971 600 56 55 66 and ask for the Architectural Experience as a group booking: it runs on Saturdays at 16:30 for AED 1,125 per group, with museum admission paid on top.³ Single places are sold for the 10:30 tour at AED 170 a person.³ Adult admission is AED 70.⁴ The programme was paused for the weather and resumes in October 2026.³

Wear flat, closed walking shoes: staff check footwear before the walk, and anyone in heels, sandals or open toes is kept off the dome.³ Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for check-in and the security check; bags go to the cloakroom.³ Access to the dome can be cut short or cancelled for security, maintenance or weather.³ From Dubai, take the E11 to the Saadiyat Island exit and follow the signs to the Cultural District; the free Cultural Express shuttle also runs from Dubai to the museum.⁴

Discretion

A group booking takes the 16:30 tour for your own party; single places are sold only for the 10:30 tour.³ Taxis drop off and pick up in front of the main entrance, and paid valet parking is available.⁴ Every guest passes check-in and a security check before the walk.³
