Rana Begum: Taking Form

New tapestries, linen paintings, wooden panels and works on paper by the London-based artist Rana Begum, her fifth solo show at The Third Line in Alserkal Avenue.

Why it is worth going
The show is all new work, and its centre is a set of woven wool tapestries nearly five metres tall, hung from the ceiling of Gallery 1 and built from coloured triangles whose second pattern appears only as you walk around them.1 They were made with the textile studio Dash & Miller, with whom Begum first worked on the tapestries and seat covers for the Bristol Beacon.1 Gallery 2 holds large paintings in diluted acrylic on raw linen and smaller panels on wood.1 Begum, born in Sylhet in 1977 and trained at Chelsea and the Slade, has had solo shows at Tate St Ives, the Sainsbury Centre and the SCAD Museum of Art, and her work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Ashmolean and the Royal Academy of Arts.2
