Why it is worth going

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston organised the exhibition with Tate Modern.¹ It brings together more than 30 of Kahlo's works, among them Self Portrait with Loose Hair (1938) and Memory or The Heart (1937), both from private collections, and Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird (1940) from the Harry Ransom Center.¹ Her clothes, jewellery and photographs hang with over 200 works by her contemporaries and by later artists who took her up.¹ The last rooms follow how her image became a brand, through more than 200 commercial objects.¹ It is on Level 3 of the Natalie Bell Building; the gallery stays open until 21.00 on Fridays and Saturdays.¹²
