The Royal Suite at The Savoy

Why it is on the list

The Savoy opened on the Strand in 1889 and is a Grade II listed building, one of the few London hotels on the river; Monet painted Charing Cross and Waterloo bridges from his rooms here.¹ The Royal Suite is its largest suite at 264 m², twice the Savoy Suite at 130 m².² It was laid out as a London residence: a sitting room, then a large living room with its own bar, then a morning room for private dining, all facing the river, with a bedroom, a cedar-lined dressing room and a bathroom with bath and steam shower; a service kitchen sits behind.³

It has one king bed.² A party that needs two bedrooms should ask for the Terrace Suite instead: 122 m², two king beds, and the only suite in the hotel with a terrace.²

How to get it

Call room reservations on +44 (0)20 7420 2300 or write to svy.reservations@fairmont.com and ask for the Royal Suite.³ Booked direct, the stay includes the Savoy butler, the house car within three miles when it is free, a one-way transfer from the airport or a train station (or valet parking), a bottle of Champagne and valet pressing of three items per guest; these do not apply on promotional rates.³ Check-in is from 3pm and check-out at noon; an early arrival has its luggage held and the hotel's facilities open until the suite is ready.⁴ Cancellation is free until 14:00 the day before arrival; after that the first night is charged, and some packages differ.⁴

Discretion

Cars arrive in Savoy Court, the hotel's own forecourt off the Strand, where traffic drives on the right.¹ The doormen take the car for valet parking with no booking needed, and the concierge arranges the hotel's chauffeur, including its Rolls-Royce.⁴ The butler who comes with the river-view suites works as a private assistant for the length of the stay.⁴
