The Beach House Suite at Shutters on the Beach

Why it is on the list

Shutters on the Beach is the hotel in Los Angeles that stands directly on the sand, on Santa Monica Beach, a walk along the shore from the Santa Monica Pier; Forbes Travel Guide rates it Four-Star.¹²³ Of its five suite types the Beach House Suite is the largest, about 1,300 sq ft on the third and top floor of the Beach House, the building closest to the water.⁴⁵ It has hardwood floors, two fireplaces, more than one balcony facing the ocean, a California King bed, and a separate den off the living room with a full-size sofa bed, which makes it the suite for a family.⁴ The bathroom has a hydrothermal massage tub.⁴

It is one bedroom. For more rooms, the hotel connects standard rooms of the same category through its own reservations team.¹ To stay in the hills or in Beverly Hills rather than by the sea, take the Penthouse Suite at Sunset Tower Hotel or the Presidential Suite at The Maybourne Beverly Hills instead.

Write to reservations@shuttersonthebeach.com or call +1 866 527 6612 and ask for the Beach House Suite.⁵¹ A suite booking takes a deposit of one night's room and tax at the time of booking; cancel at least 7 days before arrival or the deposit is kept.¹ Check-in is at 4pm and check-out at noon; ask ahead for an early arrival.¹ A resort fee of USD 60 a night plus 15% tax is added; it covers the Beach Concierge, bicycles, internet and an afternoon house car within three miles.¹ Overnight valet parking is USD 90, and USD 250 a day is held on the card for incidentals.¹ Dogs up to 25 lb, two at most, are welcome for USD 125 a stay.¹ The concierge books cars at sotbconcierge@shuttersonthebeach.com; the hotel is 8 miles from Los Angeles International Airport.¹

Discretion

The pool and its seating are for registered guests only, and private cabanas can be reserved.¹ The Beach House faces the public beach path directly; the Ocean Front Suites below run along the boardwalk, so the top-floor suite is the one furthest above it.⁶⁵ A government photo ID is asked for at check-in.¹
