Why it is worth going

Montreal's orchestra comes to Los Angeles for a single evening with its music director, Rafael Payare, as part of the Colburn Visiting Orchestras series.¹² The centre of the night is Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, written after Stalin's death, a work Payare took on tour with the orchestra in 2022.¹ Before the interval, the Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos plays Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, and Samy Moussa's Elysium opens the programme.¹ The evening runs about two to two and a half hours, with a 20-minute interval.¹
