Why it is worth going

La Scala brings back the production Riccardo Muti commissioned in 1990: staging by Liliana Cavani, sets by Dante Ferretti, costumes by Gabriella Pescucci.1 Nadine Sierra sings Violetta on 19, 23 and 28 September and 2, 6, 10 and 15 October; Piero Pretti is her Alfredo, and Boris Pinkhasovich sings Germont.1 Michele Gamba conducts the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra and Chorus, with the theatre's Ballet Company in the second act.1 The evening runs about three hours and twenty minutes with two intervals.1
