Verdi's Otello opens the 2026-2027 La Scala season on 7 December in a new production staged by Damiano Michieletto, with Myung-Whun Chung conducting and nine evenings to 5 January.

Why it is worth going
The 7 December opening night starts Myung-Whun Chung's first season as Music Director of La Scala.1 Verdi wrote Otello for this theatre, where it opened in 1887 to Arrigo Boito's libretto.1 The staging is a new La Scala production by Damiano Michieletto, his eighth for the house and his first opening night.1 Brian Jagde sings Otello, Luca Salsi Iago and Eleonora Buratto Desdemona from 7 to 22 December; Arsen Soghomonyan, Roberto Frontali and Roberta Mantegna take the roles on 29 December and 2 and 5 January.1
