The Riva Aquarama at Como Classic Boats

A private day on Lake Como in a 1970s Riva Aquarama built entirely in mahogany, with its own captain, for up to six.

Why it is on the list

The Aquarama is the Riva that followed the Tritone, with a better hull and two separate front seats. Como Classic Boats keeps two of them, a Special and a Super, launched in 1971 and 1977. Both are built entirely in mahogany, 8.55 to 8.80 metres long, with twin Crusader V8 engines.1 The company is based at Via Vecchia Regina 48 in Laglio.2 Cantiere Ernesto Riva, which has built boats in Laglio since 1771, restores period boats and has its registered office at the same number on the Via Regina; its site links to Como Classic Boats.3 The six-hour Wonder Lake tour runs the length of the lake past Villa d'Este, Villa Pliniana and Villa Carlotta, with a lunch stop and two more stops of the guests' choosing.4

The Aquarama is the wrong boat for more than six. The Vaporina takes ten, and the Venetian limousine takes eight.5

How to get it

Book online through the booking page, or call +39 327 74 62 571 or write to info@comoclassicboats.com, and ask for the Wonder Lake tour on the Aquarama.25 It is EUR 4,500 for six hours, with lunch at a lakeside restaurant and champagne on board.54 Shorter tours of one to four hours go on the same boats.4 Bookings cancelled at least seven days ahead are refunded in full, and so are tours the company calls off for weather. A no-show pays the full price. Cancellations are made by phone.1

Discretion

The boat carries only your party and the captain. It collects you from any village with a dock between Como and Menaggio or Varenna, or from the private dock of your hotel or villa.61
