The 24/7 unit at the American Hospital of Paris

Why it is on the list

Since 1954 the American Hospital of Paris has been accredited by the Joint Commission, the only civilian hospital outside the United States to hold it; the Haute Autorité de Santé certified it "Confirmed Quality of Care" in October 2025.¹² It ranks first in France on the national e-Satis patient satisfaction indicator among hospitals giving medical, surgical and obstetric care.¹ Its 24/7 Medical Surgical Unit has the laboratory, imaging, interventional cardiology and endoscopy at hand at any hour, an operating room of its own, and 150 accredited specialists on call, from cardiology and neurology to obstetrics and dental surgery.³ Five bilingual emergency physicians, each with more than ten years of practice, lead it, and one is on site at all times, two at weekends and peak hours.³

It treats patients aged 16 and over only; a younger child needs another door.³

How to get it

Go straight to the unit at 63 boulevard Victor Hugo in Neuilly-sur-Seine, day or night; the new main entrance of the hospital is at 84 boulevard de la Saussaye.⁴ Reception is staffed from 7 am to midnight; the switchboard is +33 1 46 41 25 25.³ A nurse sees you on arrival and one emergency physician stays your contact throughout; surgery, if needed, can go straight into the unit's operating room.³ On discharge you receive a summary of the visit and results, translated into English on request, the prescription and an itemised bill.³ For a planned consultation or check-up, the international patients team answers Monday to Friday, 9 am to 7 pm, at Intl.Patient@ahparis.org or +33 1 46 41 83 76.²

Discretion

The unit was rebuilt with separate routes for patients who walk in and those who arrive lying down, and with individual rooms for privacy.³ Staff speak English and French, and Chinese, Japanese and Arabic interpreters come on site or by telephone at nights and weekends.³ Valet parking runs Monday to Friday, 7 am to 8 pm, and a porter will call a taxi on the way out.⁴
