Why it is worth going

This is the close of the Ring that Calixto Bieito began staging for the Paris Opera in 2025, and it opens exactly 150 years after the first complete cycle was given at Bayreuth in August 1876.1 Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the Paris Opera orchestra and chorus; Andreas Schager sings Siegfried, Tamara Wilson Brünnhilde, Mika Kares Hagen, Brian Mulligan Alberich and Eve-Maud Hubeaux Waltraute.1 Bieito's cycle moved from a world of big data in Das Rheingold to the militarised Walküre, and its last evening sets the descendants of Wotan and Alberich against each other.1 Sung in German with French and English surtitles.1 The three October evenings are the opera on its own; the same cast returns in November inside the full RING cycles.2
