Why it is worth going

The Arc is a Group 1 over 2,400 metres of turf for horses of three and older, first run in 1920, and with €5 million in prize money it is Europe's richest flat race.¹ Sunday 4 October carries it alongside three more Group 1 races, the Prix de l'Opéra, the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère and the Prix Marcel Boussac; Saturday has two, the Prix de Royallieu and the Prix du Cadran, with nine races each day.² The course covers 57 hectares of the Bois de Boulogne, and its grandstand, by Dominique Perrault, reopened in 2018.² New this year: a paddock for each racing nation, among them France, England, Ireland, Germany and Japan, and a Parade of Nations just before the main race.³ The Arc Summit, a platform several metres above the track, is open both days, booked race by race.³
