Why it is on the list

Ange-Jacques Gabriel built the Hôtel de la Marine between 1757 and 1774 for the Garde-Meuble, the office that furnished every royal residence; the Navy kept it until 2015, and it was restored between 2015 and 2021.1 The Intendants' Apartments were taken back to their late 18th-century state from the original paint found under later coats, 18 of them in the tiled antechamber, and refurnished from the Garde-Meuble's own inventory, with three pieces by Jean-Henri Riesener, two of them classified as national treasures.2 The visit ends in the 19th-century state rooms and on the loggia, the balcony of twelve Corinthian columns over the Place de la Concorde.3 The public comes in from 10.30 am to 7 pm; before and after, the monument gives these rooms to a single party with one of its guide-lecturers.45

It is a visit, not a dinner: the packages stop at breakfast or champagne on the loggia or in the Intendant's courtyard, and the monument hosts no weddings or birthdays.6 For a private visit followed by dinner among the works, the Musée Rodin after hours is the better choice.

How to get it

Write to the monument's private-events team at privatisation-hdm@monuments-nationaux.fr, or call the Centre des monuments nationaux's private events department on +33 1 44 61 20 30.57 Ask for a private tour of the Intendants' Apartments, the state rooms and the loggia with a guide-lecturer, from 8.30 to 10.30 am or 7 to 9.30 pm, every day.6 It is priced as a flat fee for up to 30 people: EUR 2,250 excluding VAT with a guide-lecturer, EUR 1,750 with the Confident headset instead, and EUR 2,250 for each further group of 30.6 Breakfast first (8.30 to 10.30 am) costs EUR 8,000 excluding VAT for 30 with the caterer included; champagne afterwards (7 to 9.30 pm) EUR 5,000; a tour that adds the roof, in the evening only, EUR 5,000 for 20.6 Fees are minimum rates and may change with the nature of the event, and every request goes to the monument's team first.6

Discretion

Private tours run only outside public opening hours, so the rooms are closed to other visitors.5 Cars set guests down at 2 Place de la Concorde; there is no parking in the courtyards, and the nearest car parks are under the Place de la Concorde and at the Madeleine.6 The building is a listed historical monument, and parties follow the guidelines of the Centre des monuments nationaux.6
