Signature Rome at Ciampino

Why it is on the list

Ciampino is the Rome airport closest to the city, 12 km south-southeast of the centre just outside the ring road, and the one Italian government flights and visiting dignitaries use.¹ Its general aviation traffic goes through a terminal of its own, apart from the single passenger terminal the low-cost airlines use.¹ Signature works from that terminal with customs and immigration on site, the aircraft under 24-hour surveillance, and IS-BAH certification.²

It is the wrong door for a commercial flight: scheduled traffic at Ciampino is low-cost carriers, and long-haul flights land at Fiumicino, Rome's main airport.¹

How to get it

The operator or flight department books the handling with Signature, either through the reservation form, which asks for the tail number and the arrival date and local time, or by calling the terminal on +39 06 6595 9458.³² Ask Signature to arrange the prior permission an arriving aircraft needs at Ciampino.² The terminal is staffed from 07:00 to 23:00 local time; for an arrival or departure outside those hours, ask for a call-out in advance.² Silvio Grilli is the general manager, and a Sixt car can be booked to wait at the terminal.²

Discretion

Passengers clear customs and immigration inside the general aviation terminal, away from the passenger terminal the airlines use.²¹ The aircraft stays under 24-hour surveillance while it is on the ground.²
