Anoushka Shankar gave her first public sitar performance in New Delhi in 1995, aged 13, with Zakir Hussain on tabla; this one evening in Singapore marks her thirty years on stage.¹² She is Ravi Shankar's daughter and trained with one of his disciples from the age of eight.¹ She has received fourteen Grammy nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to perform live at the ceremony.¹ As a soloist she has played her father's compositions with the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the Berliner Philharmoniker.¹ The concert draws on her roots in Hindustani classical music and the contemporary work she has built on them, ninety minutes without an interval.² The Esplanade Concert Hall is the centre's hall for music, known for its acoustics.³
