Why it is worth going

This is the programme the Singapore Symphony takes on its China tour, heard at home first under its Music Director, Hannu Lintu.¹ Chloe Chua, the Singaporean violinist, plays Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor.¹ The evening opens with The Sisters' Islands, a tone poem by the Singaporean composer Wang Chenwei, and closes with Mahler's Symphony No. 1, "Titan".¹ It is one night only, at the University Cultural Centre on the National University of Singapore campus rather than the orchestra's usual halls in the city centre.¹
