The Shangri-La Suite at Shangri-La Singapore

Why it is on the list

Shangri-La Singapore opened in 1971 as the group's first hotel, in 15 acres of gardens off Orchard Road.¹² It has held the Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia's defence summit, every year since 2002, and in 2015 the first meeting between the leaders of China and Taiwan since 1949.¹ The Valley Wing, added in 1985, is the hotel's separate house for heads of state: 131 rooms and 26 suites, its own entrance and lobby, and a lounge only its guests use.¹³ The Shangri-La Suite is the largest room in the hotel at 348 m², newly renovated, with two bedrooms, a dining room, kitchenette, bar, an in-room spa and gym, and 24-hour butler service.⁴⁵ It and the Singapore Suite are the only rooms in the wing with a private lift and entrance.³

It is the wrong room for the water: the suite looks over the hotel's gardens and pool, not the bay.⁴ For Marina Bay outside the window, take the Royal Marina Bay Penthouse at Mandarin Oriental. If the Shangri-La Suite is taken, ask for the Singapore Suite, 238 m², in the same wing with the same private lift.⁵³

How to get it

Call reservations on +65 6737 3644 or write to reservations.sls@shangri-la.com and ask for the Valley Wing Shangri-La Suite by name.⁴ It sleeps four adults, or two adults and two children, in the existing beds.⁴ The hotel marks the renovated suite as coming soon and shows it in artist's renderings, so ask for the first dates it takes and whether the finishes match the pictures.⁴ The stay includes breakfast in the Summit Room, afternoon tea in the Valley Wing lounge and evening canapés and cocktails at the Marble Bar.⁴³ The hotel arranges an airport transfer with a greeting at the aerobridge at Changi.²

Discretion

Valley Wing guests arrive through their own entrance and check in at their own lobby, apart from the Tower Wing.³ The suite has a private lift and entrance, and a butler on call at any hour.³⁴ The Shangri-La Dialogue fills the hotel with delegations and security every year; check the dates before booking.¹
