A bespoke suit from Ginza Tailor

A full bespoke suit cut and sewn by hand, start to finish by one craftsman, at the Ginza house that has tailored since 1935.

Why it is on the list

Ginza Tailor has made clothes by hand in Ginza since 1935. It still works in the maru-nui way: one craftsman sews each garment from start to finish.1 Cutting and sewing are done by hand in its own workshop on Namiki-dori.2 Its work has won the Prince Takamatsu technical prize twice, once for suits and once for formal wear, and it has been chosen four times to represent Japan at a world exhibition of fine tailoring.32 It makes for women as well as men.2

How to get it

Call the shop on +81 3 3571 4129; it is open 10:00 to 19:00 and closed on Tuesdays and over the New Year.1 Ask for a full bespoke suit, which starts at JPY 385,000.2 The shop is on the fifth floor of the Ginza Tailor Building, 5-5-16 Ginza.1

Discretion

Fittings take place upstairs, on the fifth floor of the tailor's own building, not in a street-level shop.1
