The private salon at L'Osier

Why it is on the list

L'Osier has held three Michelin stars since 2019, under Olivier Chaignon; it held three from 2008 to 2010 as well.¹ Shiseido opened it in Ginza in 1973.² Pierre-Yves Rochon designed the rooms, and the private salon hangs a handmade Aubusson tapestry by Sonia Delaunay.³ There is one salon, for up to 10, and the whole table takes the same course; there is no à la carte in the room.⁴

It is the wrong room for more than 10: the Versailles salon at Joël Robuchon seats 12.⁵ It is also the wrong room with children: L'Osier admits guests from 13 years old.⁶

How to get it

Call the restaurant on 0120-156-051 (free within Japan) or +81 3 3571 6050, between 10:00 and 20:00 on days it is open, and ask for the private salon; the salon is booked by telephone only.⁴⁷ The book opens up to the end of the third month after the month you call, and a credit card is taken for every reservation.⁷ The room charge is ¥11,000 at lunch and ¥22,000 at dinner for 7 to 10 guests, and ¥55,000 at either for 2 to 4.⁴ The Menu Dégustation is ¥45,000 and Au Fil du Temps ¥70,000, tax included, with a 15% service charge; cheese is at the chef's choice for now.⁸⁴ Lunch runs 11:30 to 15:00, last order 12:30; dinner 17:30 to 22:00, last order 19:00.⁶ The restaurant closes on Sundays, Mondays, some national holidays, in mid-August and over the New Year.⁴ Cancelling within 48 hours costs the full course price for every guest booked.⁷

Discretion

Say you are coming by car when you book: the building has parking, entered only from Sony-dori, and guests who drive are shown from the car park straight to the salon.⁴⁶ Men wear a jacket; from July to September a collared shirt will do, and shorts and sandals are turned away.⁶⁹
