The room at The Krane

Why it is on the list

THEKRANE is a hotel of one room, so the room is the hotel: it sits at the top of a former coal crane in Nordhavn's old industrial harbour, in what was the engine room, and the guests staying are the only guests.¹ The owner, Klaus Kastbjerg, and the architect Mads Møller of Arcgency kept the crane's structure; below the room are a reception, a meeting room and a spa with its own terrace.² Walls, floor and ceiling are black-painted wood, the furniture was made to the room's dimensions, and the floors are Dinesen, the textiles Kvadrat, the beds DUX and the sound Bang & Olufsen.² Two terraces face opposite ways, one for sunrise and one for sunset, and the old operator's cab at the very top is a small lounge with a daybed and a floor-to-ceiling window over the harbour, the coast and the sea.³¹

It is the wrong choice for a stay built around a hotel's restaurant, bar and staff on every floor, or for a room in the old city: Nordhavn is a working harbour district still being rebuilt.¹² For a suite on Kongens Nytorv with a full hotel around it, take the Royal Suite at d'Angleterre.

Call +45 44 44 21 50, which answers around the clock, or write to hello@thekrane.dk, and ask for THEKRANEROOM; the site also books the night online.¹⁴ A night costs DKK 9,500, with breakfast brought to the door, two bathrobes, access to the sauna club and a swim in the harbour if wanted.¹ Ask at the same time for private use of the Amazing Krane Spa, which has two jacuzzi tubs, a sauna and a glass wall that slides open to the sea; private dining with the house's partners and a minibar stocked to order are also added on request.³¹

Discretion

There is one room, so there are no other guests; the concierge team meets arrivals at the crane and takes the luggage up, and breakfast is left at the door.¹ The spa can be booked for the guests alone.¹
