Why it is on the list

Moorfields Eye Hospital London, founded in 1804, is the oldest eye hospital in the world; the Dubai hospital, opened in Dubai Healthcare City in 2007, was its first branch abroad.¹² It is accredited by Joint Commission International and by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International, and was the first ophthalmology provider in the Middle East given ACHSI Centre of Excellence status.² More than 50 eye specialists cover cataract, glaucoma, retina, cornea, squint, oculoplastics, neuro-ophthalmology, ocular oncology and children's eyes.³ Infections, a scratched cornea and injuries to the eyelid or eye socket are all treated here, and medicines and glasses are dispensed on site.⁴⁵⁶

It keeps clinic hours and is closed on Saturdays, so it is the wrong choice for an eye problem at night or on a Saturday.⁷

Call +971 4 429 7888 or write to enquiries@moorfields.ae and ask for an appointment at the Dubai hospital; the site also takes requests online.⁷ The hospital is open Monday to Thursday 8am to 8pm, Sunday and Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm, and is closed on Saturdays; during Ramadan it opens 9am to 3pm, Sunday to Friday.⁷ A hotel doctor or your own ophthalmologist can refer you through the referral form, and the hospital then calls you to arrange the appointment.⁸ It works with many UAE insurers; confirm your cover with your insurer or the hospital before you go.⁶
