The Royal Suite at Claridge's

Why it is on the list

Claridge's held its Coronation celebrations in 1953, and Michelle Wu designed this suite around them: the dressing-room doors carry hand embroidery of the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock, the silk damask is Gainsborough's, woven on a 1920s loom, and the chandelier is bronze Baccarat from the 1880s.¹ It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and twin dressing rooms over 225 sq m, a separate dining room with a restored mahogany table for eight, and an original Gilbert & Sullivan grand piano.¹ A butler is on call around the clock.¹

It sleeps five at most, with an extra bed.¹ For balconies and a larger floor, The Apartment at The Connaught is a 285 sq m penthouse with two balconies over Carlos Place and can be extended to the whole sixth floor.²

Discretion

Guests landing at the private jet terminals of Luton, Stansted, Farnborough or Biggin Hill fly by Sikorsky S-76 to the London Heliport in Battersea, where a hotel car takes them to Claridge's.³ With a dining room for eight inside the suite, dinner need not mean the restaurants downstairs.¹
