Why it is worth going
The Neue Galerie has been closed since May for work on its building at 1048 Fifth Avenue, and every gallery reopens on November 12 with this exhibition.1 For the museum's 25th year it fills the entire building on Museum Mile with the collection's highlights, among them Gustav Klimt's Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (1907), in oil, gold and silver on canvas.2 The collection holds Vienna around 1900, from Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Richard Gerstl and Alfred Kubin to the Wiener Werkstätte of Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and Dagobert Peche and the architects Adolf Loos and Otto Wagner, alongside Max Beckmann, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Gabriele Münter, the Bauhaus and Paul Klee.2 Café Sabarsky, on the first floor, reopens on October 1 and serves until 9 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday.3
