The private guided tour at the Glyptotek

Why it is on the list

The brewer Carl Jacobsen founded the Glyptotek and gave his collection to the public in 1888; it holds more than 10,000 works, mostly antiquities and Danish and French sculpture and painting of the 19th century.¹ The museum is three buildings by Vilhelm Dahlerup, Hack Kampmann and Henning Larsen, with a glass-domed Winter Garden of palms at its centre.² A private tour is led by one of the museum's own educators, for your group alone, on a theme you choose: its sculpture by Auguste Rodin, Palmyra, Etruria, the Egyptian collection, French art from 1800 to 1925, or the architecture itself, down to the materials, mosaics and colours.³⁴⁵

It is the wrong choice for more than 30 people, who need several tours.³ Until October 2026 the Greek and Roman sculpture and the Central Hall are being rearranged and some galleries are closed.⁶ For a different collection, take the private guided tour at the David Collection.

How to get it

Book through the museum's website at least 14 days ahead; for questions or special requests, write to booking@glyptoteket.dk or call +45 3341 8111, Tuesday to Friday, 8.00 to 9.45.³ Name the theme you want. A tour costs DKK 1,100, with admission on top; the card or EAN number is given when booking and charged after the tour.³ An email confirms the request, and a final confirmation follows once a guide is found; if none is free, the museum may cancel.³ Cancelling is free up to 7 days before; later, or a no-show, is charged in full, and a group more than 15 minutes late without warning counts as cancelled.³ Tours cannot be booked on the last Wednesday of the month.³ The museum is closed on Mondays.⁶

Discretion

The tour is for your group alone.³ Admission is free for everyone on the last Wednesday of each month and the galleries are crowded then, so private tours cannot be booked on those days.⁷
