The Royal Reception Rooms after hours at Christiansborg

Why it is on the list

These are working state rooms: the King holds gala banquets and public audiences here,¹ and they still serve for royal audiences and meetings of the Council of State. The Great Hall holds the tapestries Bjørn Nørgaard made for Queen Margrethe.² The public tours run on fixed times in Danish and English;¹ the private tour is your group alone with a guide, and it can be set outside the rooms' opening hours, 10.00 to 17.00 daily from 30 March to 1 November.²³

It is the wrong choice when the date cannot move: the palace rooms can close without notice for official state or royal events.³

How to get it

Write to the Christiansborg booking desk with the number of guests, the tour and the date; a confirmation comes back by email.² Ask for the private tour of the Royal Reception Rooms outside opening hours. It takes about an hour. The guide costs 995 kroner in opening hours and 1,990 kroner outside them, plus admission per person;² admission to the Royal Reception Rooms is 150 kroner at the door and 140 kroner online, free under 18.⁴ Groups of up to 25 are suggested; for more, the palace will shape a tour on request.²

Discretion

Booked outside opening hours, the tour runs while the rooms are closed to other visitors.³² Photographs for personal use are allowed with handheld equipment only, without flash; commercial and wedding photography is not. Large bags are not allowed inside, and cars may not park in the inner courtyard or on the Riding Ground.⁴
