The private dining room at Kong Hans Kælder

Why it is on the list

Kong Hans Kælder opened in 1976 in the cellar of Kong Hans' Vingård, one of the oldest houses in Copenhagen, and is Denmark's oldest gourmet restaurant.¹ In 1983 it was the first restaurant in Denmark to receive a Michelin star; Mark Lundgaard, head chef since 2014, is the only one of its four head chefs to have taken it to two stars.² It holds two stars in the 2026 Danish selection.¹ The restaurant was refurbished in 2025 and 2026.²

For a private party the company sits apart and undisturbed, the head chef composes the menu with the host, and one team of waiters stays with the table all evening.³ For two people, a table in the main dining room is the simpler booking. For a private room with an open kitchen, take the Inspiration Kitchen at Geranium instead;⁴ Geranium holds three stars in the same selection.¹

How to get it

Call the restaurant on +45 33 11 68 68 and ask for private dining; the arrangement is planned with you, and special requests for the menu are taken.³ A booking stands once the confirmation email arrives; a week before the date a second confirmation comes, and it must be accepted within 24 hours or the reservation lapses.⁵ For more than 10 guests, changes and cancellations close three weeks before arrival; late cancellation or a no-show costs DKK 3,200 per person.⁵ The restaurant closes for holidays, among them 21 to 28 December 2026 and 15 to 23 February 2027.⁵

Discretion

The party is seated apart from the other guests and served by a single, fixed team of waiters for the evening; the restaurant describes private dining as complete discretion.³
