Why it is on the list
The Norland Agency places only nannies who have completed their training at Norland, and has placed them in London and abroad since 1892.1 Every candidate holds an early years qualification of at least level 3 and the Norland diploma; those qualified after 2008 also hold a BA (Hons) degree.12 Before any CV reaches a family, the agency checks for a DBS check from the last three years and two recent references it has verified itself, and every nanny it places has a 12-hour paediatric first aid certificate from the last three years.1 Every Norland Nanny has at least a year's experience with children and families.3
It is the wrong choice for older children: the training covers the early years, up to eight.2 It is also slow for a permanent post. Demand is high, the agency cannot fill every position it registers, and it advises allowing three months to advertise and interview.2 For a few days' cover, ask for a temporary nanny instead. The agency places them for anything from a single day to 13 weeks.2
How to get it
Call the Norland Agency on +44 (0)1225 904030 or email agency@norland.ac.uk, then register the vacancy online.45 Positions are advertised on the college's own app, where qualified nannies read them; the agency lets you see the advert before it goes up.51 Choose the role: permanent (live-in or daily, full- or part-time), temporary (one day to 13 weeks), rota nannies for 24-hour cover, a proxy parent, a wedding or event nanny, or a maternity practitioner for newborn care over several weeks or months.2 The agency handles interviews, sends a UK employer a draft contract and negotiates the terms.1
In London, the salary guide for a permanent daily nanny runs from £55,000 to £90,000+ gross a year. Temporary nannies are £230 to £350+ gross a day, and maternity practitioners £350 to £550+ gross per 24 hours.3 For a UK permanent placement the agency charges 13% of the gross annual salary + VAT, invoiced on the nanny's first day. Temporary and maternity placements are charged a daily fee. There is no fee if no one is placed.32 Tell the agency about any repeat booking, because further fees may apply. A nanny's name passed on to another employer who then hires the nanny costs the usual placement fee.3
Discretion
Every Norland Nanny is bound by the Norland Code of Professional Responsibilities, with a disciplinary procedure for breaches.1 The Code commits each nanny to respecting a family's privacy and confidentiality, including after the job ends. A nanny may photograph or film the children only with the parents' prior consent, and must use social media responsibly.6 The agency gives families the names of its nannies in the strictest confidence.3
