The hotel doctor from Doctorcall

Why it is on the list

Doctorcall started the UK's first private visiting doctor service in London in 1989, and has run it around the clock since the early 1990s.¹ London hotels have called it for more than 30 years. It is an associate member of the Society of Golden Keys, the concierges' association, and its founder, Dr Charles Levinson, is an honorary life member.² The duty doctors are named on the site with their GMC numbers and are members of the Royal College of General Practitioners.³

A dispatch system runs a rota of GPs across the city, so the hotel and the guest get a live arrival time.² A doctor can usually be there in about 90 minutes and can prescribe or refer during the visit.⁴ Interpreting by telephone is available in more than 240 languages.¹ If the guest would rather not see anyone in person, ask for a telephone or video consultation instead.² It is the wrong choice when the guest cannot wait about 90 minutes for a doctor.⁴

How to get it

Ask the concierge to call Doctorcall; hotels have their own account for booking online, and the charge can go on the guest's hotel bill.² Otherwise call +44 344 257 0345 or book online by postcode, which gives the arrival time.⁵⁴ You can ask for a set time or for the next free doctor.⁴ Prescriptions are sent electronically to a nearby pharmacy.² Telephone advice is free for 24 hours after the visit. Extras are charged separately: £33 for each injection, £50 for a blood sample and £63 for a courier. These prices apply from 1 April 2026.⁵ Invoices are available on request.⁵

Discretion

The doctor comes to the room, so there is no waiting room and no clinic visit.³⁴ The charge can go on the hotel bill rather than on a separate payment, and a guest who prefers not to be seen can take the consultation by telephone or video.²
