The in-store stylist at Maxfield

Why it is on the list

Tommy Perse opened Maxfield in 1969 and moved it to 8825 Melrose in 1985; it brought Prada, Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto to Los Angeles.¹ Beside the flagship stands a Jean Prouvé 'Nomade' house brought from France, used for installations by Maison Margiela, Alaïa and Givenchy, and across the road the Maxfield Gallery shows furniture from the house's private collection by appointment.¹² Miu Miu, Celine and some Chrome Hearts are sold only in the stores, and the house pairs a client with an in-store stylist.²

It is the wrong choice for something made to measure: for shirts, Anto on North Beverly Drive cuts a pattern by hand. The stores keep shop hours and there is no same-day delivery, so it will not answer a late-night need.²

How to get it

Write to clientservices@maxfieldla.com and ask to be paired with an in-store stylist; a reply comes within 24 hours, Monday to Friday.³² Or call the Melrose store on (310) 274-8800; it is open Monday to Saturday 11am to 7pm and Sunday 12pm to 5pm.¹² Stock differs between Melrose and the Malibu store at 3939 Cross Creek Road, so ask client services to check where a piece is before you go.² The gallery at 8818 Melrose opens by appointment only.²

Discretion

Client services checks stock at either store by email and schedules in-store pickup of an online order, so a visit can be short.² Purchases ship worldwide by FedEx, overnight in the US for eligible orders placed by noon.²
