Why it is on the list
Augusto Caraceni learned the trade in his father's shop in Ortona, dressed clients in Paris in the 1930s and opened this workshop in Milan in 1946.1 It has stayed in the family: his son Mario from 1972, then Mario's daughter Rita Maria and her husband Carlo Andreacchio from 1998, and their children Massimiliano and Valentina since 2004.1 Of the several independent houses that carry the Caraceni name, this is the one still in the founding family's hands, with around 40 people making about 700 hand-sewn garments a year as of 2011.2 Every garment is stitched by hand, lined in silk, and cut from English and Italian cloth the house buys directly from the mills.1
It is the wrong call for something needed this week: a suit starts with around 30 measurements and goes through three fittings before it is finished.1
How to get it
Ask for an appointment with the tailors by phone on +39 02 6551972, by email to info@a-caraceni.it, or through the request form on the house's site.3 The first meeting can be in the Milan showroom or by video call over Skype, WhatsApp or Zoom.3 Plan the stay around three fittings in Milan.1 The house guarantees its cloth and its work and takes back its suits for alterations in later years.1
