Why it is on the list

Leonard Logsdail started his own tailoring business in London in 1971, three years after leaving tailoring college, and was the youngest tailor to open on Savile Row; he moved the business to New York in 1991.¹ The atelier has stayed at 9 East 53rd Street since.² A bespoke garment here is cut by the tailor who takes the measurements, from a paper pattern drafted for that one figure and posture.¹ He has made the clothes for films by Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese, among them The Wolf of Wall Street, American Gangster and Bridge of Spies, and is known for linings cut from Hermès silk scarves.² His son, also Leonard, has worked with him since 2012.²
