The St. Regis opened on 4 September 1904 at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 55th Street, built by John Jacob Astor IV to designs by Trowbridge & Livingston. It is a New York City designated landmark.¹ The Presidential Suite is its largest, 3,000 square feet on the 16th floor.² Two bedrooms, dressing rooms, a wood-panelled library, a full kitchen and a private dining room lead off a living room whose floor-to-ceiling windows face Fifth Avenue and Central Park.² A St. Regis butler comes with every suite and is on call day and night.³

The hotel's entrance is on East 55th Street, just off Fifth Avenue, through arched portals.¹ The suite sits on the 16th floor, well above the street.² The dining room lets a dinner for guests stay inside the suite rather than in a restaurant downstairs.²
