The Penthouse Suite at Rome Cavalieri

Why it is on the list

The Penthouse Suite is the top of Rome Cavalieri: 200 sqm, and above it a private roof garden of 215 sqm with a Jacuzzi facing St Peter's Basilica.¹ It has a dining area with a bar, a walk-in dressing room, a guest cloakroom and its own wine cellar; the hydro-massage bath looks toward St Peter's too.¹ Four limited-edition Andy Warhol Dollar Signs from the hotel's collection hang inside.¹ That collection holds more than a thousand pieces, among them three canvases by Giambattista Tiepolo from 1725.² La Pergola, in the same hotel, is the only restaurant in Rome with three Michelin stars; Heinz Beck has run its kitchen since 1994.³⁴

The hotel is a drive or a shuttle from the centre: its bus runs to Via Bissolati, off Via Veneto, a few times a day.⁵ For a suite at the top of the Spanish Steps, the Hassler Penthouse is the one to ask for.

Discretion

The suite has its own camera security system.¹ Breakfast for suite guests is served in the Imperial Club lounge rather than the public restaurant, and the lift reaches the Club floor only with a guest's key card.⁷⁸
