The hotel babysitter from The Nanny Agency

Why it is on the list

The Nanny Agency works with several Danish hotels and sends nannies to hotel rooms, flats and private homes for single evenings or longer stays.¹² Every nanny is at least 21, has passed an interview and a reference check, and completes a first-aid course during recruitment.³⁴ The agency obtains both a general and a child-specific criminal record certificate for each one, and they are covered by occupational injury and liability insurance.⁵ Between them they speak Danish, English, German, Italian and Spanish, and they know the city well enough to take children out sightseeing.² The founder, Amalie Thalund, started it after several years as a babysitter in London.³

It is the wrong choice for a child who is ill: the nanny is not obliged to look after a sick child unless that was agreed beforehand.⁵ For a doctor at the hotel, take the house call from Privatlægen.

How to get it

Fill in the booking form with as much detail as you can, or write to kontakt@thenannyagency.dk or call +45 22 21 10 32; the agency picks the nanny to match what you describe.⁴⁶⁵ Book at least 48 hours ahead: the non-refundable booking fee is DKK 600, or DKK 800 with less notice, and covers one nanny for up to three shifts.⁴ The rate is DKK 313 an hour from 07:00 to 20:00 for up to two children, 15% more per extra child, 15% more after 20:00 on weekdays and from Friday 18:00 through Sunday, and DKK 470 an hour from midnight to 07:00; three hours at least, billed per started half hour, all prices including VAT.⁴⁵

Date, times, number of children and the hotel are confirmed in writing. Give written consent in advance if the nanny may take the children out, including on public transport, or give them medication, and pass on allergies, medical needs and an emergency contact before the first shift.⁵ Cancelling with less than 48 hours' notice, or shortening a shift once the nanny has arrived, is invoiced in full; coming back more than ten minutes late is charged at the hourly rate.⁵

Discretion

The agency describes its service as discreet and confidential for clients, and its terms bind the agency, the nanny and the client to confidentiality about each other's personal matters.⁴⁵ Sensitive information is handled by the agency with discretion.³ The nanny may not be hired privately behind the agency's back; rebooking the same nanny goes through the agency.⁵
