Why it is worth going

Downtown Design is the anchor of the week: international brands and manufacturers show their latest collections beside limited-edition and commissioned work by independent studios, from 4 to 8 November.¹² This edition brings a showcase of Memphis Milano, the movement Ettore Sottsass founded in 1980, whose furniture David Bowie and Karl Lagerfeld collected.³ Buccellati returns with Aquae Mirabiles, a room built around its Caviar silverware and drawn by Luke Edward Hall.⁴ Outside the fair, Abwab becomes a single curated group exhibition this year, In Other Words, on how language is shaped by design,⁵ and the Urban Commissions competition sets pavilion-scale installations in the district's public spaces.⁶ The week is organised in strategic partnership with Dubai Design District and supported by Dubai Culture.⁷
