The Royal Suite at The St. Regis Rome

Why it is on the list

The St. Regis Rome is the hotel César Ritz opened in 1894 on Piazza della Repubblica, in a palazzo by the Roman architect Giulio Podesti.¹ The Royal Suite takes the corner of its first floor: 300 m², an entry hall, a living room with an antique grand piano on an Aubusson carpet, Louis XVI and Piedmontese furniture, travertine and bronze, and silk on the walls, and windows over the piazza.² The bedroom has two dressing rooms and a marble bathroom with a Jacuzzi, a separate shower room and two basins.² A dining room seats 12 at a marble table, served from the suite's own kitchenette.² For a family or an entourage, the suite joins the St. Regis Suite and the 130 m² Presidential Suite as the Royal Apartment.²

It is the wrong suite for a terrace or a view over the rooftops: it sits on the first floor. For that, take the Hassler Penthouse, 330 m² on the eighth floor above the Spanish Steps, with two travertine terraces and a lift that opens into the suite.³

How to get it

Call the hotel on +39 06 47091 and ask for the Royal Suite by name; to take the whole floor, ask for the Royal Apartment, which adds the St. Regis Suite and the Presidential Suite.⁴²

Discretion

Guests of the suite can use a diplomatic entrance from the street with its own lift.² The kitchenette that serves the dining room has a separate entrance.²
