Why it is on the list

The service is run by Tokyo International Air Terminal Corporation, the company that operates Haneda's international terminals, for passengers departing, arriving or transferring on international flights at Terminals 3 and 2.¹² A member of staff meets you and stays with you through check-in, security and to the boarding gate, and it runs 24 hours.¹² On departure the fee also covers the TIAT Lounge, duty-free orders reserved and handed over, and use of the kerbside and parking for a hire car or taxi.² The TIAT Lounge on the fourth floor of Terminal 3 is open around the clock, with 80 seats, a buffet, drinks including alcohol and shower rooms.³

Staff do not go with you to the customs, immigration and quarantine desks; you pass those yourself.² On a private jet, use the Business Aviation Gate at Terminal 3 instead, which has its own immigration and customs.

How to get it

Book by email only: fill in the application form from the service page and send it to hnd-airportescortservice@tiat.co.jp, which takes requests 24 hours a day, weekends included.¹ The form asks for flight numbers and times, the number of checked bags, whether you have anything to declare, and the car's make, colour, plate and driver, or the train or bus stop if you come that way.⁴ Bookings open 30 days before the flight and close 72 hours before; a booking stands once the confirmation email arrives.² Questions other than bookings go to +81 3 6428 0825, from 9:00 to 17:00 Japan time every day.²

The fee is JPY 55,000 including tax for one passenger aged 12 or over, and JPY 11,000 for each additional passenger, up to four; between 22:00 and 5:00 it is 25 percent more.² It covers three hours from the booked time, delays included; each further hour is JPY 27,500, or JPY 5,500 per additional passenger.² Payment is by bank transfer in yen, 72 hours before the flight.² Changes and cancellations go to the same address or number; from 72 to 24 hours before, half the fee is charged, and inside 24 hours all of it.² Passengers an airline will not carry unaccompanied, or who need help with the toilet, dressing or meals, cannot use the service.²

Discretion

The staff member meets you holding a board with the name you give on the form, or otherwise one reading HND-AIRPORT ESCORT SERVICE.⁴ Your car may use the kerbside and parking at the terminal as part of the service.² The terminal passes your name, flight and the service booked to your airline, and nothing else from the booking.²
