The sushi counter at Masa

Why it is on the list

Masa held three Michelin stars in every New York selection from 2021 to 2024, and two in 2025.¹ It serves omakase only. At the Hinoki Counter a sushi chef serves each guest directly: 5 to 6 small appetizers, then 15 to 17 pieces of sushi, then seasonal fruit.² The counter is a single solid piece of hinoki, sanded every day, and each dish is plated as soon as it is ready.³

The counter seats 10.⁴ For a larger party, ask for the dining room (22 seated) or the whole restaurant (32 seated, 45 standing).⁴ For a still larger private room, the West Room at Per Se is the alternative.

How to get it

To book a seat, call reservations on 212 823 9807 or email reservation@masanyc.com. Lunch and dinner are served Tuesday to Saturday, dinner from 5:30 to 10:00 PM.³ To book the whole counter, ask the events team for a full sushi counter experience; menu, table setting and drink pairings are arranged with them for each party.⁴ The Hinoki Counter omakase is 950 per person and lunch starts at 495, both before drinks, tax and gratuity. Allow about two hours.² Corkage is $300 a bottle, two 750 mL bottles at most per reservation, and not for bottles on Masa's own list.² The restaurant asks guests not to wear strong fragrance or cologne.²

Discretion
