Why it is on the list

Interpreters.dk is the international branch of the Danish agency Tolkene.dk, owned and run by Sara Høyrup, a member of AIIC, the international association of conference interpreters.¹ She trained in conference interpreting at Copenhagen Business School, was certified as a simultaneous interpreter by the European institutions in 2012, and has interpreted board meetings for Europol and police cooperation at Eurojust.² The agency works mostly with AIIC members and EMCI-trained interpreters; at the least, the interpreter it sends is an experienced sworn interpreter.³⁴ She works into Danish from English, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish and Catalan, and from Danish into English and Spanish.⁴

For a conference rather than a meeting, ask for a team: conference interpreters work in pairs, and a hall needs a booth and a technician, which the agency books through the Danish sound company Teletech.⁵⁶ Whispering equipment is cheaper, but it is meant for tours and site visits, not for a meeting round a table.⁶

Write to sara@tolkene.dk or call +45 27 47 73 00; Sara Høyrup answers every call and message herself and follows the job from start to finish.⁷² Send the budget, what the meeting is about and the date.¹ Interpreting between professionals (a business court, teaching, media) is DKK 10,000 for up to three hours and DKK 14,000 for up to six, before VAT and expenses, with preparation and local travel included; each started hour beyond that is DKK 2,000 per interpreter.⁸ Book a month ahead: under a month adds DKK 2,000, under a week DKK 4,000.⁸ The booking is binding, and the agreed breaks cannot be shortened.⁸ Several languages, several days or future jobs booked together bring up to 20 % off.⁹

Discretion

AIIC's code binds its members to the strictest secrecy about everything said at a meeting closed to the public, and forbids any personal gain from it.¹⁰ Sara Høyrup holds the security clearance that goes with her work for Europol and Eurojust.³
